Welcome to my website!
I am a Canadian-born urban geographer who has lived in the Netherlands since 2004. I am currently a lecturer in urban geography in the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University, where I also completed my Master's and PhD. Over the past ten years, I have also spent a considerable amount of time living, studying and working in Scotland.

Urban geographers are fortunate because we can observe the different patterns and processes which we study and research in our daily lives. I believe you can learn a lot about a city by walking around it and speaking to people who live there.
My current research involves themes surrounding neighbourhood change. I am currently examining how gentrification is perceived and experienced by different groups. One aspect of this is understanding how gentrification physically changes neighbourhoods. I am continuing themes explored during my PhD related to waterfronts and urban entrepreneurialism, in particular the goals and visions that different stakeholders have. Finally, I am interested in understanding why middle-class households reject certain types of neighbourhoods when looking for a new home, and what this can tell us about why neighbourhoods change.
I am always looking for motivated, hard working and passionate master's students to develop ideas and work together. If you are interested in researching any of these themes, do not hesitate to get in touch.

In addition to continuing to teach World Cities, Urban Geography 1, supervise Master's students and lead a post-graduate excursion, I will also teach the Introduction to Human Geography at University College Utrecht. I will continue to develop my research on gentrification and waterfront regeneration
